KUALA LUMPUR: It's free on-street parking, and free access to swimming pools, courts, and fields as the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) celebrates its 18th anniversary today.
These are among the freebies the council is offering in celebration of its anniversary under the theme "Petaling Jaya, the Happiest City."
" In line with MBPJ's efforts to make Petaling Jaya a beautiful, clean, and sustainable city, 1,000 plant seedlings will be given away, including those of lime, sapodilla, honey jackfruit, blueberry, and mulberry trees," MBPJ said in a statement.
There will also be a 50 per cent discount on wheeled trash bins, free distribution of Abate (mosquito larvicide).
Visitors are invited to join the exhibitions held at Yong Shook Lin Road from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.
In the morning, participants can engage in the Fun-tastic Scavenger Treasure Hunt. Registration starts at 9.30 am and is open to MBPJ staff, public university (IPTA) and private university (IPTS) students, as well as high school students.
Sports enthusiasts can look forward to events like Netball Shoot Out, Sepak Raga Ratus, and Dam Ular at 2 pm, followed by a lucky draw.
In the evening, visitors can showcase their vocal talents in the Golden Voice Singing Competition.
Tomorrow, there will be a Traditional Fashion Show competition.
The pinnacle of the event will be on June 29 at 8.30pm at Dataran Boulevard here.
The event will showcase cultural performances, processions by government and private entities, and musical performances by local artists including Fahimi Angau, Victoria Ng, Santesh, Black Mentor, and Aisha Retno.
