No report on 3R-related issues in Sungai Bakap campaigning, say police

NIBONG TEBAL: Police have not received any reports of any parties touching on 3R-related issues during campaigning for the Sungai Bakap by-election.

Police spokesman for the Sungai Bakap by-election Senior Assistant Commissioner W. Puspanathan said this included during ceramah sessions or in social media.

"We have been monitoring and have not received any reports on those who touched on the 3R issue. "We hope that it will remain like that throughout the by-election campaign.

"We want to advise all parties to continue observing good ethics during the campaigning period.

"If they continue with this cooperation, then there will be no issues and the people need not worry about coming out to vote," he told newsmen at the Seberang Prai Selatan district police headquarters here today.

Puspanathan said police had also not received any reports on other election offences.

Puspanathan said since Nomination Day on Saturday until today, police had approved 17 permits to hold ceramah — 10 from Pakatan Harapan and seven from Perikatan Nasional.

"No application was cancelled as all parties abided by the rules set," he added.

The Sungaj Bakap by-election enters its fourth day of campaigning today.

The by-election sees a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan's Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional's Abidin Ismail.

Polling has been fixed for July 6.
