Anwar: Don't get carried away by MAHB-BlackRock allegations

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded civil servants not to get too carried away by claims and allegations surrounding the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares to a company related to BlackRock.

The prime minister said they should not get too involved in political talk of cursing, slandering and accusing others of being 'kafir' (infidels).

He said the opposition was spreading "outright lies" and emphasised the need for those in the civil sector to stay informed about the realities on the ground.

"In Sungai Bakap (where campaigning for a by-election is ongoing), I was called an adopted child of America, that the Finance Ministry borrows money from the IMF (International Monetary Fund), and that I follow the advice of the Jews.

"These are outright lies being told by an ustaz, donning a kopiah and a robe. In reality, how can I do all of this? How could you, as civil servants, defend the prime minister for doing this?"

Anwar said this at the Prime Minister's Department Appreciation Ceremony 2024 here.

A video had spread on social media showing an opposition leader allegedly saying that Anwar was an "anak angkat" (adopted child) of America.

In the video, the leader had also claimed that the measures introduced by the government to rationalise subsidies were the work of "Jew lobbyists", who acted as advisers to the Finance Ministry and in other strategic places in the country.
