PUTRAJAYA: The details on the salary increase for civil servants will be announced before the tabling of the 2025 Budget this October, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said it had been too long since civil servants had received a salary increase that matched their hard work. This also took into account the increased pressure and more stringent monitoring on civil servants.
"It has been a long time since there has been a meaningful salary increase for civil servants, considering the increased pressure, more hard work, stronger monitoring, and enforcement, including from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on more areas and departments.
"That's why when questioned in Parliament yesterday, I emphasised that I will not compromise because it is our responsibility to provide what is reasonable and feasible to civil servants, and God willing, I will announce it before this year's budget."
He said this during his speech at the Prime Minister's Department Appreciation Ceremony 2024 here, today.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Ali.
On Labour Day, Anwar announced an increase of more than 13 per cent in civil servants' remuneration, among the highest in Malaysia's history.
The salary increase, effective Dec 1, marked one of the highest in Malaysia's history, with the last revision occurring 12 years ago.
