Death toll from Simpang Renggam car-electric pole accident rises to 4

KLUANG: Another victim has died from the accident where a car crashed into an electric pole on KM24 of Jalan Renggam - Simpang Renggam last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that Nor Aminul Fitri Nor Azmi, 21, succumbed to his injuries today while being treated at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here.

Nor Aminul Fitri, along with three of his childhood friends, all 21, were heading to Simpang Renggam when the car they were traveling in skidded and crashed into a concrete Tenaga Nasional Bhd electricity pole.

Muhammad Adib Ahmad Shahfarin, who was behind the wheel, was believed to have lost control of the car before it skidded and crashed into the pole.

The impact of the crash caused the pole to collapse onto their Proton Wira.

Muhammad Adib, a university student, and two other passengers sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

The other victims were identified as Mohamad Ziyad Azmi, an operator at the Tanjung Pelepas Port and the registered vehicle owner, and Ahmad Manan, a convenience storekeeper.

All the victims were from a housing estate in Simpang Renggam and were childhood friends.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Renggam Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Shoromi Salih said a team of 14 rescuers was deployed to the scene after they were alerted of the accident at 11.45pm.

The team, he said, found all four victims trapped in the car, which was reduced to a wreck. He added that all the victims were found overlapping each other in the almost flattened vehicle.

The team took almost two hours to complete their operations, including to clear the crash-site from debris.
