Kelantan makes first arrest over repeated diesel purchase

KOTA BARU: Kelantan recorded its first repeated diesel purchases at a petrol station when a man was arrested for buying 60 litres of the fuel in Rantau Panjang on Wednesday.

Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Azman Ismail said the case was the first after the government introduced diesel subsidy rationalisation on June 10.

He added the man, in his 30s, was found to have made repeated diesel purchases at 12.20pm totalling RM132.03.

"He then made another RM200 worth of purchases after 55 minutes later based on our team's observations and purchase records.

"The suspect was arrested with a locally registered four-wheel drive vehicle.

"The vehicle was believed to be used in diesel smuggling during an operation by an enforcement team by the Pasir Mas Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry branch and the General Operation Force of the 9th Battalion," he said when met today.

Azman said the case was being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He added that the operator of the petrol station would also be investigated under the same Act.

"He will be investigated for disobeying instructions from the ministry supplies officers for allowing the suspect to make repeated purchases."

He added that the 60 litres of diesel worth RM332.03 and the vehicle seized were worth more than RM9,000.
