Perlis becomes second state to ban fuel station operators from selling diesel and petrol to repeated customers

KANGAR: Perlis has become the second state, after Kelantan, where fuel station operators are banned from selling diesel and petrol repeatedly to both local and foreign customers on a daily basis.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's enforcement director, Datuk Azman Adam, said the instruction took effect immediately today for all 39 fuel stations and holders of retail licences for diesel and all grades of petrol in Perlis.

"The Supply Controller's Instruction is issued based on Regulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, prohibiting the repeated sale of diesel and RON95 petrol on the same day to Malaysian and foreign registered vehicles with immediate effect," he told reporters after presenting the notice to all fuel station operators here today.

Also present was Perlis KPDN office director Norazah Jaapar.

Azman said that following the government's rationalisation of diesel subsidies effective June 10, the ministry observed that smugglers had shifted to government-subsidised RON95 petrol.

"For this reason, we are continuing Ops Tiris 3.0 to curb cross-border smuggling activities involving diesel, RON95 petrol, 1-kilogramme packaging cooking oil, refined sugar, cooking gas, LPG, and flour," he said.

Azman added that according to Ops Tiris 3.0 statistics, the ministry has conducted 22,336 inspections nationwide between Jan 1 and June 25.

"Out of the total, 1,156 cases have been recorded involving an accumulated seizure value amounting to RM64.84 million with 397 arrests.

"We wish to issue a stern warning to any individual or company concerned to always comply with laws regarding the repeated purchase of diesel and petrol on a daily basis," he said.
