Mohd Azizi vows to contest Gua Musang seat again if declared vacant

KUALA LUMPUR: Gua Musang member of parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim intends to leverage his extensive experience as the elected representative to vie for re-election in the constituency

At a press conference held in Parliament today, Mohd Azizi said he will also meet the top leadership of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to request the opportunity to contest again in the constituency if Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul rules the seat to be vacant.

"I will bring this matter to the leadership (of PH and BN) to give me the opportunity to contest, as Gua Musang was a seat contested under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket, and it is not a target for PH.

"If we look at history, it has been a seat retained by (Tan Sri) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. However, I have carried out many activities, especially to attract young voters, and I have been working since 2020 (to win the seat).

"So, why should I let the seat go to someone else if a by-election occurs?

"God willing, I will use this reason when I meet the PH-BN leadership to request the opportunity to contest again," he said.

On June 20, Bersatu confirmed that it had submitted a notice to Johari's office on the status of its six MPs.

Bersatu Vice-President Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, who is also the Beluran MP, said the notice to inform of the vacancy of the six parliamentary seats was submitted per Article 49A of the Federal Constitution.

Other than Mohd Azizi, the five other MPs are Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Meanwhile, Johari said he will study the notice submitted by Kiandee before making a decision.
