Umno needs saving? Don't be hypocritical, Puad tells Pas

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno Supreme Council member has slammed Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari for insinuating that Umno "needs saving".

In a Facebook post, Datuk Puad Zarkashi hit out at Fadhli's call to Umno members to save the party by backing Perikatan Nasional's (PN) candidate in the Sungai Bakap by-election.

Fadhli had said that Umno would not be able to become the powerhouse it once was as long as it was in the unity government and Pakatan Harapan would also not want the party to be strong.

"No need to be hypocritical," Puad said, adding Pas has always wanted to destroy Umno.

"Pas used Muafakat Nasional and PN to split Umno and the Malays," he said, referring to the loose coalition between Umno and Pas in the aftermath of the 14th general election.

The alliance fell apart over a disagreement on Bersatu's inclusion into the pact.

Puad said Pas should just focus on supporting its PN ally Bersatu, claiming the party was "barely" surviving.

"Only they will Pas realise they are the ones carrying a burden (Bersatu)."

Puad said Fadhli, through his comments, was just trying to find a way to bring Umno and Pas together again.

"But it's too late. Umno will not be fooled twice."
