#NSTviral: Joohari joins 'one by one gentleman' viral trend to drive home unity message

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan's Sungai Bakap candidate, Dr Joohari Ariffin, has jumped on the "one by one gentleman" viral phenomenon – to drive home the message of unity and peace.

In the original clip that went viral on June 5, two men – an Indian customer and a Chinese storekeeper – were seen slugging it out in a mini market in Seberang Jaya. The clip set social media on fire.

Police detained both men for two days before they were released on June 8.

Since then, they have made peace and have appeared in several videos.

The recent video clip, posted on Facebook by Joohari, starts off with the customer, brandishing a cleaver in the shop, giving the impression that he had wanted to settle the score with the storekeeper.

Joohari can be seen entering the frame, trying to pacify the customer.

It takes a surprising and humorous turn when the customer reveals that he is there to crack open a durian and share it with his 'nemesis'.

Joohari then quips: "This is how we must live together, united in spirit and harmony, so we can move forward. We don't want to fight, we want to be friends."

The comment section for this video was flooded with praise from netizens, who welcomed its message in promoting unity.

"We need to share this. Malays, Chinese, and Indians together. A campaign video that brings peace and unity. Thumbs up," wrote @Lee Khai Loon.

"Good content for uniting Malaysians of various races. This is what Malaysia needs," said user @Khusyairi Kamil.

"It doesn't matter which party the representatives are from, as long as they can help the people efficiently and effectively. I support harmony and unity among everyone in my beloved country, Malaysia," said @Matt Lai.
