KOTA KINABALU: Bank Rakyat has announced a special flood relief assistance program, which includes a moratorium facility of up to six months for individual and business customers affected by the recent flood disaster in Sabah.
The floods, which occurred on Sunday, have severely impacted four areas: Penampang, Tuaran, Kiulu, and Putatan.
The flooding has left hundreds of cars submerged and caused extensive damage to properties and infrastructure in the affected areas.
Many residents have been displaced, and businesses have suffered significant losses.
In response to the disaster, Bank Rakyat chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohammad Hanis Osman said the bank feels compelled to ease the burden and difficulties faced by its customers.
"The bank hopes that the moratorium facility will provide much-needed relief to those impacted by the floods.
"The proactive steps taken by Bank Rakyat align with the values of concern and compassion within the Malaysia Madani concept, aimed at reducing the financial burden and commitments borne by customers during these challenging times.
"Therefore, customers who are struggling to make installment payments for subscribed financing products can apply for this moratorium assistance.
"This includes Personal Financing-i, Home Financing-i, Vehicle Financing-i, Hire Purchase Vehicle-i, Education Financing-i, Micro Financing-i, and Ar-Rahnu-i," he said in a statement.
Affected customers can apply for the moratorium via email at bantuanbanjir@bankrakyat.com.my by providing their full name, identification number, affected address, contact phone number, type of financing, and a copy of a utility bill confirming the customer's address.
Business customers can also visit the nearest Business Banking Centre (BBC) for assistance.
