Gas Malaysia says abandoned skid tank which leaked at Sepang not theirs [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd (GMD) has clarified that the abandoned odourant skid tank which leaked at the KLIA Southern Support Zone Aircraft Engineering area was not owned by the company.

In a statement, GMD said they were merely called to assist Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB) in identifying the source of the leak.

"As a responsible corporate organisation, our involvement in this situation is to ensure public safety is upheld at all times," the statement read.

It was reported that a gas leak at Sepang Aircraft Engineering's Southern Support Zone of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was traced to an abandoned skid tank, left unattended for nine years.

KLIA police chief ACP Azman Shari'at said the leaking gas had been identified as methyl mercaptan, or methanethiol, a colourless flammable gas with a distinct odour resembling rotten eggs or cabbage.
