20 people suffer from nausea following chemical leak at KLIA engineering area 

SEPANG: At least 20 people suffered from nausea following a chemical leak at the KLIA Southern Support Zone Aircraft Engineering area.

In a statement today the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations control centre said those affected were staff from the Sepang Aircraft, MAS Engineering Hangar and CAE.

"Six were sent to the air disaster unit, 13 to the medical centre, and one to the Putrajaya Hospital for medical treatment.

"Among the agencies involved in this incident are the police, the Department of Environment, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Health Ministry, Airport Fire Rescue Service and Air Side Safety," it said.

Earlier today, it was reported that a hazardous materials (Hazmat) team had been dispatched to Sepang after a chemical leak was detected.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Muhammad Nur Khairi Samsumin said a distress call was made at 11.23am today.

"Six personnel from the KLIA Fire and Rescue Department along with the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Department Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) unit immediately went to the scene to investigate.
