Aug 31 gazetted as Sabah Day

KOTA KINANALU: The Sabah state government has gazetted Aug 31 as Sabah Day.

The declaration document, which was dated June 5, was shared on Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan's Facebook page today.

"Aug 31 is hereby declared as Sabah Day," the document said.

Kitingan, who is Parti Solidarity Tanah Airku president, has campaigned for the recognition of the date to correct misconceptions about Sabah's history.

Sabah became a nation on Aug 31, 1963 when it gained independence from British colonial rule.
