Singapore-registered luxury car caught fire at Johor CIQ exit lane

JOHOR BARU: A Singapore-registered luxury car caught fire at the vehicle exit lane leading towards Singapore at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex at Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) here today (July 8).

Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said that the driver of the car, who is a Singaporean, was not injured despite the fire almost completely destroying the vehicle in the 8.15 pm incident.

He added that firefighters at the scene took 15 minutes to control the fire and another 10 minutes to completely extinguish it.

Raub also said that the State Fire and Rescue Department will investigate the cause of the fire and assess the losses incurred.

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department Operation Commander Nizam Mohammad said that preliminary checks showed that the fire is believed to have started from the car's engine before spreading rapidly damaging 60 per cent of the vehicle.

He added that the emergency rapid response team stationed at BSI managed to contain the fire before his team arrived at the scene.
