Elderly man sustains severe burns in car fire

KUALA LUMPUR: An 80-year-old man sustained severe burns in a car fire in Taman Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan, today.

He suffered burns on more than 90 per cent of his body after his Perodua Kancil caught in flames.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the incident occurred in Jalan BS 9 at 2.39pm.

He said the victim was rescued by members of the public.

Eight firefighters from the Seri Kembangan station, led by Senior Fire Officer II Muhammad A. Kadir, a fire rescue tender, a light fire rescue tender and an emergency medical rescue services vehicle were deployed to the scene.

The car was 90 per cent destroyed. The victim was handed over to the Health Ministry for medical attention.

Mukhlis said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, adding that flammable materials were not found in the victim's car.
