1,332 squatters homes demolished in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has demolished 1,332 squatter homes built on state-owned land between Jan 1 and yesterday.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said 3,452 demolition notices had been issued to identified squatter areas in the state during the same period.

Currently, he said, 63 per cent of squatter homes have yet to be demolished, and if demolition operations were carried out in all the identified areas, more than 3,500 squatter homes were expected to be demolished by the end of this month or the next.

"Notices are being distributed in five districts — Keningau, Sipitang, Beluran, Papar and Tenom — and demolition operations will be conducted once this phase is completed.

"We will continue these operations until we completely eradicate squatter colonies in Sabah," he said at a press conference at the state police headquarters here today.
