Authorities demolish 62 squatter homes in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Sixty-two squatter homes were demolished in an operation targeting illegal settlements here yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda today said the operation involved the National Registration Department, People's Volunteer Corps, Civil Defence Force, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Sabah Water Department, Land and Survey Department and Social Welfare Department.

"The structures were built illegally and did not meet safety requirements.

"The demolition aims to remove the illegal settlements and ensure the safety and comfort of residents nearby."

Kasim said the operation would continue as part of efforts to combat crime, illegal immigrants, drug abuse and social issues in Kota Kinabalu district.

"The Kota Kinabalu contingent police is committed to ensuring the district is free from crime and illegal operations."
