MB: Perak's 'sick' housing projects will be restored through strategic partnership

IPOH: The National Housing Department (NHD) has identified 58 "sick and five abandoned projects in Perak.

Following this, a memorandum of understanding has been inked between the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) and NHD to rehabilitate these projects.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said this cooperation was the first of its kind in Malaysia, involving direct collaboration between the state and federal governments to solve the issue of sick and abandoned housing projects.

"This historic collaboration between LPHP and NHD also marks a turning point in our approach to the housing problem that has plagued people for a long time," Saarani told reporters after witnessing the signing of the MoU at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here.

Present was Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

The MoU was signed by NHD director-general Datuk K. N. Jayaselan and LPHP chief executive officer Mohamed Akmal Dahalan.

Saarani said this strategic collaboration would focus on three key aspects: close monitoring of housing development issues in Perak, comprehensive collection of data and technical information, and systematic and efficient rehabilitation of abandoned projects.

"So far, five projects have been identified as abandoned in Perak. They are D'Aman Meru Raya Residence in Ipoh, Taman Tapah Permai in Tapah, Taman Cempaka II in Manjung, Taman Seri Emas in Kampar and Taman Limau Mas in Beruas.

"All these projects are under active monitoring by LPHP. The D'Aman Meru Raya Residence project is expected to resume at the end of this month, with the target of obtaining a certificate of completion and compliance by December this year.

"The latest data from NHD showed that 58 housing projects involving 4,007 housing units have been categorised as 'sick' in Perak up to May 31."

Saarani said this proved how important this collaboration was in dealing with the issues that plagued the people.

"The state government is committed to ensuring that this MoU is not just an exchange of documents, but an action plan that will be implemented with full dedication.

"We are confident that with close cooperation between LPHP and NHD, we will be able to bring about positive changes in the housing landscape of the state and become a model of cooperation that can be emulated by other states.

"I am confident that this collaboration will have a great impact on solving the housing issues in Perak," he said.
