Six ex-Bersatu MPs to discuss next step after Dewan Speaker's 'no vacancy' decision

KOTA BARU: The six former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members, whose memberships were revoked by the party, will meet to discuss their next course of action following the Dewan Rakyat Speaker's decision that their seats would not be vacated.

Jeli member of parliament Zahari Kechik said they would only issue a statement once they have met to discuss the matter.

"I am so sorry (but I can't comment now). Let me discuss this with the other MPs first.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), we will come out with a statement after the discussion," he said in a brief reply to the New Straits Times.

Apart from Zahari, the other five MPs are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal; Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar); Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang); Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan); and Gua Musang's Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who was former Nenggiri assemblyman.

Their memberships were revoked by the party after declaring their support for the unity government.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, at a press conference in Parliament today, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul had informed Bersatu that the six seats would not be revoked.

Muhyiddin said this was conveyed to the party via a letter from the Speaker yesterday.

Muhyiddin said they were disappointed by the decision, claiming it ran contrary to the provisions under Article 49A(3) of the Federal Constitution.

Bersatu, he added, will take follow-up action by appointing legal experts to chart their next move.
