Angkatan Muda Harapan backs Kelantan Umno Youth chief as Nenggiri candidate

KOTA BARU: Gua Musang Angkatan Muda Harapan is hoping that Kelantan Umno Youth chief Azmawi Fikri will be selected as candidate for the upcoming Nenggiri by-election.

In a statement issued tonight, Gua Musang Angkatan Muda Harapan chief Shafiq Razak said the selection of a young candidate would help fulfill the hopes of the people in Nenggiri.

"We will give our full support to Barisan Nasional's candidate in the coming by-election and if Azmawi is selected, we are confident all the hopes of the young people in Nenggiri and Gua Musang in general, can be realised.

"Our machineries are ready to help the unity government gain victory so that we can change the landscape of Nenggiri.

"We want Nenggiri be more forward like Galas and Paloh. The three state seats are under the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency," he added.

Shafiq said Pakatan Harapan would mobilise its machineries to Kelantan as they know that the constituency is not the same as Sungai Bakap.

"Many current and local issues can be played by the unity government especially those which involve basic development under their capacity.

"It should be remembered that in Gua Musang many issues such as land ownership and employment opportunities are local issues that are so hot that the state government fails to address them.

"So, it is the duty of the PHBN youth to lead the younger generation in Nenggiri towards greater excellence," he added.

He then said the Nenggiri by-election would open up a major opportunity for the unity government to demonstrate the ability of the state to develop the local area if it is given the chance to do so by the voters.

The Nenggiri by-election will be held on Aug 17, with Nomination Day set for Aug 3 and early voting on Aug 13.

The by-election is being held after its incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who contested under the Pas-Bersatu ticket, was sacked from Bersatu.

The vacancy of the state seat was announced by Kelantan State Assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah.
