KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) wants the Human Resources Ministry to present the findings of a third-party audit of the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) to them.
PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the ministry must present its audit in September during follow-up proceedings into the HRD Corp issue.
Ministry and HRD Corp representatives will be called in for the proceedings.
"The PAC welcomes Human Resources Minister Steven Sim's proactiveness in instructing for a third-party audit of HRD Corp on the issues raised by us and the Auditor General (AG)," she said in a statement.
Yesterday, Sim announced that the appointment of an independent auditor is expected to be made by July 31.
The audit will review all processes, procedures, documentation, guidelines, and compliance with laws concerning the issues flagged by the PAC and the AG.
Mas Ermieyati said even though the issues highlighted by both parties did not occur during Sim's tenure, his readiness to appoint an independent auditor was exemplary.
Last week, the AG's Report highlighted that a training programme involving 3,726 participants, some of whom attended it up to 16 times, cost HRD Corp RM51.69 million.
Separately, the PAC found that HRD Corp used RM3.77 billion in levies collected from employers for training development programmes to make several different investments.
This is despite the fact that it is not an investment institution.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is probing the matter, focusing on the legality of investments made by HRD Corp.
