PN MPs to protest Speaker's decision on 6 'rebels' with white armbands

KUALA LUMPUR: All Perikatan Nasional (PN) members of Parliament will wear white armbands during the Parliamentary sitting starting Monday next week, opposition bloc chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said.

The Kota Baru member of Parliament said the move is a sign of protest against the decision made by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul regarding the six parliamentary seats held by MPs sacked from Bersatu.

"Starting next week, all PN MPs will wear white armbands as a sign of protest, disappointment, and frustration. This is a 'black decision' which was made in Parliament," he told reporters here today.

"I am calling for a point of order over the Speaker's interpretation regarding the final decision (on the six parliamentary seats).

"Referring to Article 49A of the Federal Constitution (FC), it does not give you (Johari) the authority to make a decision, but only to ensure the vacancy (of seats)," Kiandee, who is also the Beluran MP, said.

Johari, however, said his decision on the six seats remains as he had conducted thorough studies on the matter before arriving at a conclusion on the status of the six MPs.

"When I receive anything that is given to me, I will make sure that I will study everything. In fact, I have read the statements in the amendment of Article 49A (of the Federal Constitution)."
