KUALA LUMPUR: Former Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri has been appointed federal police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director.
He will replace the department's deputy director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar, who had been assigned as the acting director from April following the retirement of Datuk Azman Ahmad Sapri.
The handing-over of duties ceremony was held today at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
It was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and his deputy Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Razarudin in his speech at the ceremony said he was confident Yusri's extensive experience and knowledge would propel the department towards greater heights, excellence and service delivery.
"The leadership team has high expectations for the new director to ensure the department remains on the right path and maintains its outstanding achievements.
"I hope Yusri will always be sensitive to the welfare of the personnel, including the operational needs of its personnel in the field, especially in terms of logistics, equipment, skills and training."
He said striking a fair balance between work demand and staff welfare would help the department sustain its achievements while ensuring the wellbeing of road users.
Razarudin said the department played a crucial role in ensuring compliance and enforcement of traffic laws, as well as ensuring safe and smooth traffic flow, especially in major cities during peak hours and festive seasons.
"It also plays a vital role in educating the public on safe driving practices to prevent road accidents and loss of lives."
He reminded the team to carry out consistent and regular enforcement operations with integrity to achieve the department's goals.
