KUALA LUMPUR: Seven men believed to be parking touts have been arrested in a police crackdown around Jalan Bukit Bintang here on Wednesday.
Federal Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the operation was conducted by the department's intelligence and operations division at around 10pm.
"They arrested seven Indian nationals, all men, aged between 36 and 55. They also seized RM445 believed to have been collected from their activities in the area," he said.
He said the men were arrested in four separate locations.
"We believe their activities are linked to a syndicate and they collect between RM10 and RM15 per vehicle.
"The operation was conducted based on intelligence and complaints of such activities in the location," he said.
He added that the case was investigated under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act for illegally reserving a parking space by standing, sitting or placing objects in the parking lot.
Yusri urged those with information on similar activities to come forward and share information so that further action could be taken.
