KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will cooperate with state religious agencies to raise awareness on the sanctity and nobility of the Quran among Muslims.
The ministry's enforcement and control division secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof said this was agreed upon in the 111th Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ) meeting, chaired by Johor state Islamic Religious Council advisor Datuk Nooh Gadot last Sunday.
The LPPPQ also approved the honourable disposal of 47,245 Quranic texts and materials. These materials lacked certification from the Home Ministry and contained various errors.
"In conjunction with this LPPPQ meeting, the disposal activity was conducted involving 4,015 Quranic texts and materials using the method of releasing Quranic ash weighing two tonnes.
"This process was carried out at a distance of more than 10 nautical miles with a depth of 25 metres in the waters off Pulau Kapas," he said in a statement today.
Agencies involved in the process were the Mufti's Office, the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department, and the Terengganu state Maritime Enforcement Agencies, in accordance with the Honourable Disposal of Quranic Texts Guidelines.
Nik Yusaimi said it was also in line with the resolutions of the 30th National Fatwa Committee meeting on Aug 22, 1992.
The LPPPQ also endorsed and approved a total of 21 Quranic texts final proofs. This brings the total number of approved Quranic texts that can be printed, published, imported, sold, and distributed in the country to 994 types.
