10 secondary students in Kelantan test positive for typhoid, outbreak under control

KOTA BARU: Ten students from a secondary school here have tested positive for typhoid fever as of July 15.

State Health Director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the students, who are from Form One to Form Five, were all sent to two hospitals in the state.

Dr. Zaini added that nine of the students have been discharged recently, while one is still receiving treatment at the hospital.

"No fatal cases have been reported since the typhoid outbreak was declared at the school on June 20. The last typhoid case we recorded was on July 7," he said in a statement.

Dr. Zaini also said that more than 1,000 people, including students, teachers, and school administration staff, were screened on July 3, 4, and 9.

"The typhoid outbreak at the school is now under control," he said.

He added that the district health office will continue to carry out campaigns and programs to educate the public about typhoid fever.

Dr. Zaini urged those experiencing symptoms of typhoid fever to seek treatment immediately at nearby health clinics.
