KOTA BARU: A 14-year-old female student is among three people who died from dengue fever this year.

State Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the three died between April and September.

He added the female student, who was from Kuala Krai, died on Sept 24, and the other two men, 32 and 25, from Bachok and Gua Musang, died on April 24 and July 24.

Dr Zaini said 3,003 dengue cases were recorded in the state between Jan 1 and Nov 9.

"This year, the number of cases increased about 20 per cent compared with the 2,503 cases recorded in the same period last year."

Up to Nov 9, 190 dengue outbreaks were recorded in the state compared with 198 in the same period last year, he added.

Of the 190 outbreaks, he said, 177 have ended while 13 are active.

He said nine localities with dengue fever have been identified in the state.

He added that the department had carried out fogging and inspections of premises suspected of having Aedes breeding grounds.
