Firefly, AirAsia systems down amid worldwide IT disruption

KUALA LUMPUR: Several Malaysian transport providers have reported information technology issues amid reports of outages worldwide involving systems built by technology giants.

AirAsia said its reservation and check-in systems were impacted by the IT outages affecting airlines worldwide.

"You may experience slower check-ins and longer queues and we are doing our best to address this situation. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time," it said in social media posts.

Malaysia Aviation Group said Malaysia Airlines and Firefly flights were unaffected.

However, Firefly's booking and online check-in systems are impacted by the issue.

"Firefly is working closely with the service provider to resolve the issue and restore the system as quickly as possible," it said.

Malaysia Airports Bhd (MAHB) said its airports in Malaysia were unaffected.

"However, some of our airline partners are experiencing disruptions due to this issue."

MAHB said passengers should check with their respective airlines for updates and instructions.

It also said airport personnel were onsite to assist passengers from these airlines.

Rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTM) said its ticketing system and customer service channels were experiencing technical disruptions and it was working to resolve the issue.

Government agencies as well as travel, finance and media companies worldwide have reported IT disruptions that affected their operations.

The cause of the mass outages is unclear but it appears that most of the disruption is in Europe.
