ALOR STAR: Delegates of Alor Star Umno division have passed a resolution calling for former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid to be appointed as the Kedah State Development Council (SDC) deputy chairman.
The resolution was passed unanimously by the delegates during the division's annual general meeting held at Bangunan Tunku here yesterday evening.
It was proposed by the division's deputy chief Syed Abdul Hafiz Syed Mustapa.
He suggested that Mahdzir, who is also the state Umno liaison committee chairman, is the right candidate to be appointed as the SDC deputy chairman to assist Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Saifuddin jointly chairs the council with Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor, in his capacity as a cabinet minister representing Pakatan Harapan.
"We have to do this to join hands with assisting parties in the unity government especially Umno in order to secure the authority to deal with federal agencies to assist the people in Kedah," he said in the resolution document sighted by the New Straits Times.
"His vast experience serving as the Kedah MB for three years, as a deputy minister and a minister, will provide significant input for Kedah development while empowering parties under the unity government.
