KUALA LUMPUR: The Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia, through the Federal Territories Forestry Department organised the Malaysian Greening Public Awareness programme at Kuala Lumpur Eco Park here today.
Its deputy director-general (policy and planning) Datuk Zahari Ibrahim said the programme was organised in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Forest Eco Park Endurance (KLFEPE) 2024 run, with the assistance of Hijo Running Club, which is the organiser of the run.
"The aim of the programme is to build support for the Malaysia Greening Agenda through public awareness programmes such as the 100 million tree planting campaign 2021-2025.
"The department will conduct tree planting activities and distribute 50 saplings to participants of the run," he said after flagging off KLFEPE participants here.
A total of 77 local and foreign participants took part in today's run, which has various categories, including a 6.3km Fun Run (men's and women's open and men's and women's veteran) and a 6.3 km Ultra (men's and women's categories, and men's and women's veteran categories).
Zahari said the KLFEPE 2024 was in line with the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry's intention to instil a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians.
He also welcomed everyone to involve themselves in greening programmes, and expressed his hope that such programmes will be held more frequently in the future.
The KL Eco Park is also currently offering the public a chance to plant trees to support greening and conservation efforts.
