[UPDATED] Wan Saiful's wife passes away

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Alena Omar, the wife of Bukit Gelugor member of Parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has died.

According to Bersatu's media team, Alena passed away at 3.07pm earlier at the National Cancer Institute, Putrajaya where she was receiving treatment.

Funeral prayers were held at Masjid Kariah Sungai Sekamat, on Jalan Cheras in Kajang. She will then be laid to rest at the Sungai Sekamat Muslim cemetery.

Bersatu vice president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin shared his condolences in a Facebook post along with a picture of him with Wan Saiful and other Bersatu party members.

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. My condolences to Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan on the loss of his beloved wife this afternoon. May Allah SWT grant Datuk Seri Wan Saiful and his family strength in facing this trial. May Allahyarhamah (the deceased) be placed among the righteous. Al-Fatihah," his post read.

The late Alena had been battling cancer for some time. In June, Wan Saiful said his wife had been on chemotherapy since 2020. She had been diagnosed with stomach cancer, and it had spread to other organs.

The couple have two children, aged 10 and 12.
