KUALA LUMPUR: The cumulative grade point average (GGPA) of Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia examinees in 2023 rose to 2.84, the highest-ever score in the history of the examination.
Malaysian Examinations Council chairman Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the national CGPA for the exam in 2022 was 2.82.
"A total of 1,116 candidates, or 2.70 per cent, achieved a CGPA of 4.00 with 803 from the B40.
"It was 1,184 in 2022 (CGPA of 4.00)," he said at the council's headquarters in Selayang, Baru Caves, today.
Ten per cent of candidates (4,153) obtained a CGPA of 3.75 and above, and 44.82 per cent (18,621) got a score of 3.00 and above.
Ekhwan said 41 students scored 5As in all five subjects, compared with 38 in the 2022 examination.
"Out of the 41 candidates, 29 are from the B40.
"The number of candidates getting 4As fell from 1,158 in 2022 to 1,087 last year. A total of 782 (from the 2023 group) are from the B40."
Ekhwan said all 23 subjects in the 2023 examination had a pass rate of over 60 per cent.
"For the 2023 STPM examination, 99.93 per cent of candidates are eligible for a certificate."
He also said 3.17 per cent of registered candidates did not take the examination for several reasons, including lack of interest, and family and health issues.
He added that the council would award RM1,000, a plaque and a certificate each to 17 top scorers, including Orang Asli and special needs students.
