Motorcycle journey to deliver slice of birthday cake turns tragic for family of four

JERANUT: A father and son who were killed in a tragic accident at Km18 of Jalan Jerantut-Temerloh near Simpang Bukit Ketupat here yesterday were returning home after delivering a birthday cake to their grandmother.

Muhamad Isyam Abdullah Sani, 43, and his six-year-old son Muhammad Aisy Afnan were killed in the 8.30pm accident while wife Munirah Mahmood, 28,and another son Muhammad Umar Affan, four, escaped with injuries.

Isyam Abdullah's brother, Asrizal, 37, said his brother had just celebrated Umar Affan's birthday and came to his mother's place at Kampung Bukit Dinding to send a slice of cake.

"My brother and sister-in-law who live about 2km away will usually come to my mother's place on separate motorcycles with their children. Yesterday, the family-of-four rode on one motorcycle to send a slice of cake for their grandmother.

"They spent about an hour before leaving at about 8pm. Before leaving, my nephew Aisy Afnan was eagerly waiting to shake my hands and informed me that he was returning home," he said when met today.

Asrizal said several minutes later, he received a phone call from an unknown caller through Isyam Abdullah's number informing about the accident and he rushed to the scene.

"My mother earlier told me that she heard the sirens of an ambulance and assumed that something had happened nearby...she appeared to be worried.

"Upon reaching the scene, I was informed of my brother and Aisy Afnan's death. After the ambulance took my sister-in-law and Umar Affan to Jerantut Hospital, I returned home to bring my mother to hospital but did not inform her about my brother's condition," he said.

Asrizal said Munirah is currently warded at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh while Umar Affan is treated at Jerantut Hospital.

He said Isyam Abdullah and Aisy Afnan were buried at the Bukit Dinding burial ground about 4.30am today.
