Penang bridges and roads scheduled for phased closures for cycling event

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Bridge and Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge will be closed in stages for the Penang Fellowship Ride Bridge to Bridge event on Sunday.

The Penang Bridge will be closed from 6.30am to 9am on the island side, and the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge will be closed from Batu Kawan to Batu Maung between 9am and 12pm.

State Youth, Sports and Health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said several roads will also be closed in stages for the cycling event, which will start and end at the Sungai Nibong Festival Grounds.

"Cyclists will travel across the Penang Bridge, Jalan Perindustrian Juru and Batu Kawan, then loop back to the festival grounds using the second Penang bridge and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway," he said.

"A total of 2,343 participants have registered for the 68km cycling event."

The event will begin at 7am. Cyclists will cross the Penang bridge to the mainland and then travel back from Batu Kawan to Batu Maung through the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge.
