GEORGE TOWN: The bodies of two men were recovered from the sea this afternoon after they fell from the Penang Bridge in separate incidents.
The first victim, a 31-year-old man, had reportedly fallen on Saturday, while the second man, in his 40s, fell today.
A spokesman from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station said they were alerted to the incident involving the younger man at 8.47pm on Saturday, near Km7.4 of the bridge (Prai bound).
"The man had left his Perodua Viva and identity card inside the car. A search operation was initiated, involving several enforcement agencies. At 3.25pm today, his remains were found some 5km from the reported location," he said.
The spokesman added that the remains were taken to the Marine Department jetty, where paramedics confirmed the man's death before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
In a separate incident, the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station was notified at 4.57pm today of another man who had fallen from the bridge at Km6.5 (island bound).
A nearby fishing boat rescued the victim and transported him to the Marine Police jetty.
"The victim was certified dead by paramedics. His remains have also been handed over to the police for further action," the spokesman confirmed.
