A total of 300 extreme sports enthusiasts race in Jitra duathlon

KUBANG PASU: A total of 300 extreme sports enthusiasts from across the country participated in the Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB) Jitra Duathlon 2024 in Jitra today.

The event, part of the second series of the BDB Challenge 2024, received an enthusiastic response from participants facing a challenge that tests their mental and physical strength.

Participants were divided into three categories, namely road bike, mountain bike, and folding bike for both individuals and team events.

BDB group chief operating officer Mohd Sobri Hussin said the event was held at the Darulaman Township, a recreational area developed by BDB over the past 40 years.

"The Darulaman Township also features a popular recreational spot known as Darulaman Park. Through the BDB Jitra Duathlon, we hope to promote Darulaman Park as a prime location for sport tourism, particularly in the Kubang Pasu district, while boosting the tourism industry in Kedah," he said in a statement today.

The event was officiated by the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) chief executive officer Datuk Isahak Murat.

Also present at the event were Sobri and BDB chairman Che Had Dhali.

The BDB Jitra Duathlon 2024, a semi-triathlon event, which involves running and cycling disciplines, was held entirely within Darulaman Township.

Participants had to cover a total distance of 40 kilometers (km), starting with a 5km run, followed by a 30km cycling segment, and concluding with another 5km run to the finish line.

In the men's Road Bike individual category, Muhammad Izzat Fahmi Ahmad Tajudin, claimed victory, while Tahira Najmunisaa won the women's Road Bike category.

The Elves Malaysia Team earned the winner's medal in the team's Road Bike category.

Each winner received a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy.

In the Mountain Bike individual and team categories, the winners were Indra Abu Nawas, Naimah Yunus, and the Absolute Race Team, each taking home a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy.

In the Folding Bike individual and team categories, Sufiyan Abdul Samad, Azrieynaiena, and the Mahsuri Folding Team secured the winning medals, with each winner being awarded a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy.

Previously, the BDB Langkawi Climb, the first event in the BDB Challenge 2024 series, was held at Darulaman Sanctuary in Lubuk Semilang and attracted 400 participants.
