BESUT: A 16-year-old boy had drowned in Sungai Panchor, Kampung Pasir Badak, Pasir Akar, Hulu Besut, at about 4.40pm today.
District police chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim was identified as Muhammad Ikhwan Abdullah, from Felda Tenang, Jertih.
He said they had dispatched a team to the location after receiving a report from the public.
"The victim's body was sent to Besut Hospital for autopsy, and for now, the police are classifying the case as sudden death," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the villagers said the victim was believed to be swimming with several of his friends.
"The victim's body was found by villagers who then contacted the police for further action," he said.
