A woman's wish to gift her boyfriend a mobile phone perished in an accident

KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman's plan to give her future husband a mobile phone as a birthday present did not come true, as both died in an accident with a four-wheel drive here last night.

Zulfahmi Aiman Zulkarnain, 19, the younger brother of Nur Shabirah Izzani, 22, who died in the accident on Jalan Kemajuan said his late sister and his future brother-in-law were on their way to dinner to celebrate the latter's birthday.

"At the time of the incident both of them were on their way to Pulau Duyong. She had also bought a gift for Muhammad Haniff Idham Mohd Azmi, 24, a mobile phone," he said.

Zulfahmi Aiman, who is also known as Aiman, said his future brother-in-law's birthday was next week, but they were celebrating early because Haniff, who had just got a job on an oil rig, would be undergoing offshore training for three months.

"However, their plan to celebrate the birthday and my sister's wish to give Haniff the mobile phone did not come to true as both perished in the accident," he said when met at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) Forensic Department today.

Zulfahmi Aiman, who is also a cyclist with the Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG), said it was routine for Haniff to pick up Nur Shabirah after work for dinner.

"My late sister, the fourth of seven siblings, would often return to the family home in Kampung Belukar Sukai, Kepong, here if she had the time. The last time she returned was last Thursday.

"My late sister did not like cooking, but on that day (Thursday), she insisted on preparing a meal, which was prawn fritters, for the family as an afternoon snack.

"We didn't realise that this change in her behaviour was an early sign that she was going to leave us forever," he said.

Aiman said he and another sister, Nur Hadirah, 25, who is also a staff member at TSG in Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus, received a call from an unknown person informing them of the incident at 12.50am.

He added that his late sister and Haniff had been friends since she was in Form Two.

"They have been close friends since then and were planning to get married in December," he said.
