AMPANG: The post-mortem result on a woman found burnt at an apartment here on Saturday night showed that she died of smoke inhalation and her burns.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said a 37-year-old man, who was also injured in the fire, has yet to regain consciousness and is still being treated at Ampang Hospital.
"At Tuanku Mukhriz Hospital in Cheras, a post mortem was carried out on the 28-year old woman's body this morning and the cause of death was smoke inhalation and burns," he said, adding that the case has been classified as arson.
Azam said police have recorded statements from eight individuals, and investigations are ongoing.
"We are trying to establish the motive behind the act and see whether there are other criminal elements involved in this case."
On Sunday, it was reported that an apartment fire left one woman dead with more than 80 per cent burns and another man injured at Taman Lembah Maju, Pandan Indah.
The case is being investigated under Section 435 for arson.
