JERANTUT: The post-mortem result on a hiker, who died after a tree fell on her tent while asleep at the Seputih campsite in Taman Negara, near Kuala Tahan on Oct 14 showed that she died due to the impact of the falling object.
Jerantut police chief Superintendent Zukri Muhammad said Wan Nurulhuda Mior Abdullah, 49, died due to the impact of a blunt object to her chest, abdomen and pelvis.
"The post-mortem conducted at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan on Oct 15 revealed she died due to the pressure of the fallen tree on her chest, abdomen and pelvis. The victim died at the campsite before she was airlifted," he said in a text message to the media today.
On Oct 14, Wan Nurulhuda was reported to have passed out after a tree struck her tent in the early hours of the morning before she was airlifted by a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) helicopter to the Kuantan air base at 8.55pm.
However, she was pronounced dead by a RMAF medical officer who was part of the rescue team.
Meanwhile, Zukri said the remaining nine hikers and one mountain guide who were part of the expedition along with Wan Nurulhuda were safely brought out by the 14-member search and rescue (SAR) team yesterday.
"The group arrived at the Kuala Tahan jetty about 1.25pm and were taken to the Kuala Tahan police beat to provide clear details on the incident," he said.
The SAR team who endured a 11-hour journey on foot to reach the campsite involved the police, Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department, Civil Defence Force members and firemen.
