Family to distribute RM3,573 in donations after govt covers Azhar's medical bills in South Korea

KUANTAN: "We will hand over the donation of RM3,573 from the public to those in need because the government has already helped us settle my brother's medical bills," said Norul Hanim Mohamad, 35.

Norul Hanim is the sister of Azhar Mohamad, who fought for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Chungbuk National University Hospital, South Korea, after suffering a stroke on August 31, 2021.

After treatment in that country, Azhar was later brought back to Malaysia with assistance and contributions from various parties.

However, the family was forced to sell their assets to cover Azhar's medical bill.

Norul Hanim said that after news spread about the need for RM94,153 to settle the remaining medical bill for Azhar, many parties came forward with donations.

"We have received donations amounting to RM3,573, and it will be handed over to those in greater need after the government decided to fully cover the remaining medical bill for my brother.

"We are also grateful that Chungbuk National University Hospital approved a reduction in the treatment fee from RM94,153 to RM47,180.14.

"Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has contacted me to inform that his officers at Yayasan Taqwa will settle the payment this week," she said when met.

She said, her family will soon distribute the public donations to those in greater need in this district.

Norul Hanim also said that the fundraising for Azhar will be ended.

"On behalf of the family, I would like to thank all parties and the kind-hearted Malaysians who have continuously contributed.

"In this case, the media (Harian Metro, BH, NST) acted as a bridge between us, the public, and the Minister until the payment of my brother's medical bills was resolved," she said.
