GUA MUSANG: The RM100 million additional allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today will enable border security agencies to buy more equipment, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said with the additional allocation, infrastructure development at the borders could also be increased.
"This is a good effort made by the government and will benefit those who live along the northern border.
"The government has set up an agency (Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency) which consists of a few government departments and agencies.
"We are confident that the new MCBA director-general can carry out his job well," he said.
Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said this after the ground breaking ceremony for the road alignment project in Kuala Betis today.
Anwar today announced that the government is allocating an additional RM100 million for the security of the northern border of the peninsula, and said the funds would be used to upgrade facilities at entry points in Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis.
He said he hoped to meet with Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin in Sungai Golok and Rantau Panjang within the next four months to discuss border security and plan economic development in the northern region of the peninsula and southern Thailand.
"We will also request the state government and the relevant local authorities to expedite the enhancement of facilities at the border," he added.
