Status of SPM varsity application appeals can be viewed from Aug 6

PUTRAJAYA: The status of appeals of those who applied to UPUOnline to study in public universities using Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results can be checked from Aug 6 to Aug 15.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said applicants could verify their status through the portal and UPUPocket application starting from noon Aug 6. The grace period for accepting the offers will be from Aug 7 to Aug 15.

"The Higher Education Ministry is committed to ensure that the best candidates can secure places for further studies at a higher level.

"This effort aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recommendation, where no outstanding student is left behind in the university admission process," he said in a press conference here today.

Mustapha said the ministry had received 27,407 appeals, but only 9,459 places were available. There were 246 programmes on offer, with 13 requiring an interview.

"I urge those who receive interview offers to prepare thoroughly and present themselves in the best possible manner," he added.

Mustapha said those unsuccessful in their appeal could apply for entry into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

"We have institutions such as polytechnics and community college education offering TVET. TVET should not be viewed as a second choice, as it offers high employability prospects," he said.
