KOTA BARU: Three Pas leaders will attend the burial ceremony of assassinated Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh today.
They are information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, International Lajnah central chairman Dr Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, and Lajnah central parliament representative Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman.
In his Facebook post, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the funeral is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.
"To express solidarity and undivided support towards the Palestinian struggle, Pas hereby confirms that three official representatives will pay their last respects and join the burial ceremony of the late Haniyeh.
"His death is a great loss to all Muslims in the world. In this regard, Pas calls on the government to immediately take diplomatic steps towards the independence of a sovereign Palestinian state, besides putting international pressure to prevent Israel from continuing atrocities and war crimes against the Palestinian people.
"This is in line with the latest decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as well as various resolutions and regulations on the part of the UN and the OIC that need to be respected," he said.
"This killing and war crimes against Palestine must be stopped completely," said the Kota Baru member of parliament.
Haniyeh was killed along with a bodyguard in an Israeli strike at his residence in Iran earlier Wednesday.
He was attending the swearing-in ceremony for the Iranian president.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry on July 31 confirmed Haniyeh's death.
Its spokesman Nasser Kanaani, in a statement, said an investigation into the details of this incident by the relevant institutions is underway.
