Zulfarhan's mother reveals emotional journey seeking justice for son in front of Kaabah

KUALA LUMPUR: The parents of the late Zulfarhan Osman revealed that they performed Umrah before the recent decision made by the Court of Appeal in their son's case.

Recalling the family's struggle to seek justice for their eldest son, Hawa Osman, 61, said she also brought a handkerchief belonging to her late son and a photograph of him to seek justice while performing Umrah.

"I prayed earnestly for Section 302 of the Penal Code to be reinstated for those who harmed and bullied my son by burning him with a steam iron.

"I wanted a suitable punishment for them, if possible.

"That was my prayer in front of the Kaabah and Alhamdulillah, God granted our prayers," she said in an interview with Harian Metro.

She added that she also spends much time in her room looking at Zulfarhan's medals to ease her sadness.

"The last time he came home, he placed all his medals in my room and told me to look at the medals if I missed him.

"Now, I spend a lot of time in the room, staring at his medals."

Meanwhile, the father, Zulkarnain Idros, 60, said he postponed his heart surgery to avoid missing any hearings and to continue fighting for justice for his late son.

"I had a heart attack in 2018 and the doctor informed me that I needed to undergo bypass surgery as I could no longer have a stent (placement).

"I had already undergone the same treatment (stent placement) three times. (But,) if I had the bypass surgery, I would need to rest for six months, which would prevent me from attending the hearings and fighting for justice for my son.

"I will undergo the heart treatment after everything is resolved and my son receives the justice he deserves."

On July 23, the Court of Appeal sentenced six former UPNM cadets to death for Zulfarhan's murder seven years ago.
