Malaysia to provide medical treatment for injured Palestinians, says PM [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government will facilitate the treatment of injured Palestinians, particularly women and children, by bringing them to Malaysia.

Anwar said he is in contact with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah to seek his assistance in facilitating humanitarian support.

"The government will allocate funds (for this purpose), I have discussed this with several (world) leaders and I appreciate their cooperation.

"God willing, we will do our best and will voice our opinions, regardless of who is in front of us," he said in his speech at 'Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin,' held today at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

Anwar said the government is committed to assisting Palestinians to receive treatment locally or are brought abroad for care.

Meanwhile, he also expressed gratitude to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for arranging all the preparations for the burial and the President of Iran for helping and supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people.

"I am reaching out to my friends, (Turkish president Tayyib) Erdogan and the King of Bahrain to continue providing cooperation and support for humanitarian aid so as not to weaken the fighting spirit and the jihad spirit of the Palestinians who seek freedom and sovereignty," he said.

Some 12,000 people attended the event, continuously waving the Jalur Gemilang and the Palestinian flag while chanting "takbir" and "Free Palestine."

The programme was followed by a series of speeches by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Among those who attended the event were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Zuki Ali, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Na'im Mokhtar, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, and foreign representatives.
