Kelantan development agency chairman may sue Takiyuddin over land grant claim

GUA MUSANG: South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) chairman Datuk Zawawi Othman today said he may sue Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan over the latter's remarks on land grants.

Zawawi said he would sue Takiyuddin if the Kota Baru member of parliament did not retract his statement that Kesedar had delayed processing "thousands" of land grants despite the state government's approval of settlers' applications.

When contacted, Zawawi said if Takiyuddin failed to respond to his demand, he would proceed with the action after the Nenggiri by-election.

"His (Takiyuddin) claim is slanderous to Kesedar as these land grants fall under the state government and the Kelantan Land and Mines Office.

"The land issues in Sungai Terah, Limau Kasturi, Bertam and other areas mentioned by him have nothing to do with Kesedar.

"These involve land grants that settlers applied for at the Land Office. Kesedar offers only our support and has no authority to approve the issuance of land grants."

Zawawi, who is Kelantan Umno information chief, said Kesedar was simply an agency that was responsible for developing the area.

"I take this allegation seriously and will discuss this with Kesedar's general-manager.

"If Takiyuddun does not retract his claim before the Aug 17 Nenggiri by-election, we will not hesitate to sue him."

In a ceramah in Bertam Lama on Saturday, Takiyuddin claimed thousands of these land grants were supposed to have been given to settlers, but had yet to be processed by Kesedar.
