Malaysians in Lebanon not affected by exchanges of fire

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians have been affected by the recent exchanges of fire in Southern Lebanon as of today (Aug 5), said the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The ministry said in a statement today the situation remained unpredictable and it was closely monitoring the developments in Lebanon.

"The ministry is also actively communicating with the Malaysian embassy in Beirut, Defence Ministry and the United Nations to assess the status and safety of the Malaysian Peacekeeping Battalion (Malbatt) 850-11 stationed in Tibnin and Marakah, as well as other Malaysians in Lebanon," it said.

The ministry advises Malaysians who are not part of Malbatt and who choose to remain in Lebanon to be in regular contact with the embassy and adhere strictly to any guidance and instructions provided by local authorities.

It also encourages those who have not registered with the embassy to do so immediately to receive updates and support.

"The ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Malaysians in Lebanon," it said.

The ministry said Malaysians requiring consular assistance could contact the Malaysian embassy at Lot 170, Saad Zaghloul Street, Downtown, Beirut.

The embassy can be reached by telephone at 96171380063 and +96176772527 as well as by email at mwbeirut@kln.gov.my.
