Eleven motorcycle owners booked for failing exhaust sound limit test

KULIM: The Department of Environment has issued compounds to 11 motorcycle owners after their respective machines breached the exhaust sound limit test.

Kedah DoE director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the motorcycles were examined at the Kulim police's traffic investigation and enforcement division yesterday.

"Police have ordered the motorcycle owners to attend the test, and all of them have failed the inspection using the Sound Level Meter under Regulation 4(2) of the Environmental Quality (Motor Vehicles Noise) Regulations 1987.

"The department has issued a RM300 compound to each owner, and they have also been ordered to reinstall the stock exhaust.

"All motorcycle owners must attend a re-examination process at the state DoE office," she said in a statement.

She added that the operation was aimed at reducing issues concerning loud noise from motorcycles that disrupt the public.
